THE SEASIDE, AN ANIMATION

THE SEASIDE
This is a project about the reality of living by the seaside during the summer and winter months.
It's something I feel passionately about, having grown up in a seaside town.
The ideal outcome for this project was an animation, but first I had to work out how to convey my message through drawings. I wanted the atmosphere of the imagery to do most of the talking.
EXPERIMENTS
I started this project by experimenting with different media in order to find one that creates artwork that reflected the gloomy, bleak nature of the seaside in the winter.
These are paintings on acetate.
These are drawings made in oil and graphite of the seaside town I wished to focus on for this project.
I experimented too with ink and charcoal. I settled on this medium - it was grey and bleak enough to suit the imagery I planned to make.
FINAL IMAGERY
For 2 weeks I visited the town my project was based on. I took photos, videos and sound recordings. I researched into the town's history and issues surrounding tourism and economy.
I made these drawings from my research.
FINAL OUTCOME
I used the drawings and the sound recordings to make this short animation. All the imagery is of the town Margate, and done in Indian ink and charcoal pencil.
